Curriculum Overview
KBKIS provides a full schooling programme for 2 to 18-year-olds with the university entrance qualification of Cambridge Advance Levels for the older students.
The curriculum at KBKIS is mainly based on the International curriculum from the Cambridge Assessment International Education, starting with Cambridge Primary and moving through to IGCSE, AS, and A Level in the senior years.
Students are challenged to learn by doing, and the School takes full advantage of its location to immerse students in the sights and sounds of Accra, continental Africa and beyond.
Ultimately, the qualifications which can be obtained by our senior students can open the doors to universities all over the world. Cambridge qualifications are universally recognised and welcomed from Ghana to the UK, Canada, USA, and the world beyond.
At Kay-Billie-Klaer, students acquire a global education.
The Early Childhood Development programme encourages children to explore their world and challenges them to think critically. It aims to promote creativity and continuous growth in young children in an environment where they experience the excitement of learning. Our goal is to help children become independent lifelong learners.
Preschool pupils engage in a rich and demanding curriculum that supports the development of an in-depth understanding of basic concepts and skills. Preschool classrooms are characterised by a stimulating, caring and relaxed atmosphere. Students learn to take risks and explore their world through concrete experiences. As children develop a positive self-image, they become less self-absorbed and more sensitive to the world around them. They learn to deal with their feelings, become responsible, make decisions and gradually become independent.
Our pupils enjoy exploring multiple approaches to solving problems, and their teachers are expert guides who help them navigate the learning landscape. Our pupils know the facts and vocabulary, not simply because they’ve been taught, but because they’ve built an understanding of them, which they will expand as they move to Primary School.
At the Primary level, Kay-Billie-Klaer runs an integration of the Cambridge, Singapore Math, and National curricula. Students are challenged to learn by doing, and the School takes full advantage of its location to immerse students in a well-grounded primary education that makes them compete with confidence anywhere.
Primary School is a bustling, vibrant community of teachers and students in Grades 1 through 6. These “middle” years are a time for students to take on increased responsibility in academics and activities. Primary School students begin to learn who they are, whether in the classroom or climbing up a mountain during an outdoor education trip.
At the Secondary level, students go through Lower Secondary, and on to write the IGCSEs and A Levels in the later years.
The passion for learning is fuelled by challenge, risk and diversity, embedding the skills, competencies and attributes necessary for children to thrive in secondary school.
Students exercise critical thinking and writing through active classroom dialogue and debate through a rigorous and challenging college preparatory curriculum, which includes a rich spectrum of choice and advanced courses. By the time students reach Senior High, the options have expanded to include the world’s resources.
Learning Support at Kay-Billie-Klaer is deeply integrated into the life of the school.
The primary focus is to provide supportive services for students with academic deficiencies. The goal is to help enhance a better teaching and learning environment for all students through collaborative work with school faculty and support with curriculum development.
